National Informatics Centre(NIC) is a premier organisation in the field of Information Technology(IT) in India. It provides state-of-the-art solutions to the information management and decision support requirements of the Government and the Corporate sector. NIC has set up a satellite based nation wide communication network connecting the national capital, the state capitals, district head quarters and various central government departments.

It services provided by NIC range from conducting feasibility studies for computrisation, designing, developing and implementing computer based information systems and Websites . NIC is also undertaking turnkey projects including setting up of networks and imparting training to personnel in user organisation.

NIC South Goa District Centre in the South Goa District Collectorate, It was set up in the year 1988. Initially, it had a small set up of one server and five terminals that grown up to One Unix Server, twenty terminals, number of printers and Windows 2000 server and client systems. Besides this it has VSAT based communication system for E-mail, internet browsing. This unit initially brought computer awareness among the staff by imparting training and encouraging them to use computers for day to day work. This unit has developed and implemented number of software packages for the Collectorate and other departments.
